Watch - Sigur Rós' Dauðalogn

Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós are still making videos for their Valtari Film Experiment. This is part of Sigur Rós' 'Mystery Film Experiment' series of videos, in which the band gave 'a dozen filmmakers the same modest budget and asked them to create videos for their album'. The filmmakers have complete creative freedom and the band is completely unaware of what to expect.

Watching Dauðalogn (English translation - Dead Calm) is like watching slow flips of stock nature photos. The clip, directed by Ruslan Fedotow, was shot in a forest in Yakushima, an island in southern Japan. There is a ton of nudity, so it is NSFW but I’m pretty sure no schlongs are exposed. 

The video explores the interaction between two men in a lonely home leading to one eventually carrying the other through the woods and into a boat down stream. While less plot-driven than the much of the remaining series, the piece’s poetic imagery and stark tone help facilitate Fedotow’s musings on the traditional relational boundaries between males.
